Recruiting Students and Post-docs
Recruitment
The Payne lab in the Department of Biology at Brigham Young University (BYU) is looking to recruit graduate student (MS or PhD) and post-docs in bioinformatics, with a focus on proteomics and data science. If you have questions, feel free to email me at sam_payne@byu.edu
I'm also happy to welcome undergraduate students, just come visit me at my office and chat about your interests and goals. Generally students need to have completed BIO 165 and CS 236, unless they have had previous experience in CS and are comfortable with coding.

About Provo and Utah
BYU is located in Provo, Utah, where opportunities for world-class skiing, snowboarding, fly-fishing, kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and many other outdoor recreational activities are less than 20 minutes from the lab. I personally live at the edge of a mountain about 1 block from a trail-head (and 13 minutes via bike to my office). Salt Lake City is a larger metropolitan area, and is only 45 minutes away by car or public transit (all students get free pass on public transit).
About BYU
BYU is a private institution run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Students and employees do not have to be members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. All students and employees are required to uphold to a standard of personal conduct. For more information on this standard, please consult the honor code webpage (https://honorcode.byu.edu/).
