Lab Safety Trainings
Below are listed the trainings that are required for different types of researchers in the lab. Most trainings (with the exception of IACUC) are completed through workday (BYU's HR platform) at training.byu.edu. If you do not have access to workday, click on the "Workday Access Request Form" button on the safety training website.
Lab-wide Safety Trainings
University Core Training
This training is required of all lab members. at https://www.myworkday.com/byu/learning, click on "Discover" and then search for "university core training" (required annually)
Safety Awareness Training
This training is required of all lab members. at https://www.myworkday.com/byu/learning, click on "Discover" and then search for "LfSci Safety Awareness Training" (required annually)
Molecular Lab Safety Trainings
General Laboratory Safety Training
This training is required of lab members that will work on the bench in the molecular lab. at https://www.myworkday.com/byu/learning, click on "Discover" and then search for "LfSci General Laboratory Safety Training" (required annually)
Centrifuge Safety
You must also complete the "Centrifuge Safety" optional module within the General Laboratory Safety Training.
Gel Electrophoresis
You must also complete the "Gel Electrophoresis" optional module within the General Laboratory Safety Training.
Museum Safety Trainings
General Laboratory Safety Training
This training is required of lab members that will handle museum specimens. at https://www.myworkday.com/byu/learning, click on "Discover" and then search for "LfSci General Laboratory Safety Training" (required annually)
Formaldehyde Training
This training is required of lab members that will handle museum specimens. at https://www.myworkday.com/byu/learning, click on "Discover" and then search for "LfSci General Laboratory Safety Training" (required annually)
Live Animal Safety Trainings
This training is required of lab members that will work with animals in the field and in the lab. These trainings are not on workday, they can be found at https://iacuc.byu.edu/citi. You will need to create a CITI account, and when selecting curriculum choose "Undergrad/Grad students"
Working with Amphibians in Research Settings
Students working with amphibians in the field or in the lab need to complete this training
Working with Reptiles in Research Settings
Students working with reptiles in the field or in the lab need to complete this training
Working with the IACUC
Students working with any animals in the field or in the lab need to complete this training
