InBio 131: Plant Diversity
This general education class (Natural Science elective) is a comparative and evolutionary investigation of the origin and subsequent diversification of cyanobacteria, fungi, algae, and plant groups. Fall semesters of even years by Leigh Johnson; other semesters by Blaine Furniss.
InBio 432: Vascular Plant Morphology
An in depth survey of vegetative and reproductive diversity among the major lineages of extant vascular plants. Emphasis is placed on form and structure in the context of function, phylogeny, and evolutionary trends. This knowledge provides the foundation for further study and exploration in taxonomy, paleobotany, and comparative, developmental, and structural biology. Winter semesters, 2nd block.
InBio 512: Angiosperm Phylogeny
A survey of classification theory and flowering plant families from throughout the world with an emphasis on evolutionary relationships, scientific & economic importance, and unique features. Selected families illustrate the diversity of angiosperms according to the recent findings summarized in classifications such as the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group, and compared to the scheme of Cronquist (1981). Fall semesters of odd years.
